Hoover Dual Spin Pet or SmartWash: manual passes versus automatic movement
A Hoover upright with “Pet” on the carton may use very different floor controls. The Dual Spin Pet FH54020 asks you to squeeze and release a spray trigger through wet and dry passes; SmartWash models are built around forward-wash and backward-extract movement. Choose the routine that fits your work, then check which exact hose tools and care instructions accompany the model.
Manual trigger or movement-controlled passes?
The Dual Spin Pet’s manual describes a slow forward-and-back wet stroke with the trigger squeezed, followed by a slow forward-and-back dry stroke with the trigger released. Its two brush rolls and HeatForce drying assistance are distinct from the operator control: they do not turn this into an automatic SmartWash. This format suits people who like controlling solution application pass by pass.
The SmartWash+ FH52000V and SmartWash PET Complete FH53000V instead advertise automatic forward-wash/backward-extraction floor movement. That change reduces the need to time a floor trigger, but it does not make setup and cleanup automatic. Compare their individual assessments and packages; hose tools, capacity, pet accessories and documentation should be matched to the exact suffix rather than assumed from the word SmartWash.
Separate pet claims from included equipment
Hoover lists the FH54020 with two brush rolls, a coated brush roll, an eight-foot hose, a 2-in-1 upholstery tool and Paws & Claws formula. The company describes the cleaner for pet messes, but the named tool is not called a dedicated pet tool. A package list matters when hair, stairs or upholstery is your priority: do not treat pet-themed formula or a product title as proof of an attachment with particular bristles or rubber nubs.
By contrast, SmartWash Pet XL FH62000 and PET Complete FH53000V list pet-oriented tools or equipment in their exact packages. That can be useful for above-floor work, but an upright still needs a safe floor position while the hose is in use. If your regular task is small spills and furniture rather than carpet lanes, a portable extractor can be easier to place and carry.
Do not choose on a feature word alone
HeatForce on the FH54020 is drying assistance; the official description does not identify a steam mode or heated wash liquid. Its linked manual explicitly excludes hard floors. SmartWash’s directional operation is also not steam. For delicate fabric, start with the care label and model-specific instructions, not a “pet” or “heat” name. For wood, laminate or tile, use a machine whose manual explicitly permits the surface.
Finally, account for the after-cleaning routine. The FH54020 guide calls for emptying, rinsing and air-drying the recovered-water tank, keeping solution out of storage tanks, and placing absorbent material underneath to catch drips. It explains brush-roll removal with screws rather than an easy clean-out window. If a self-cleaning tray or tool-free brush access is essential, verify it on the precise SmartWash package before buying; do not borrow those features across a product family.
