A useful fit for

Useful for smaller carpet areas plus compatible furniture or stair spots when the included hose is essential.

The main tradeoff

The smaller recovery tank requires emptying before the larger clean tank is necessarily used up; the brush keeps turning during hose use.

BISSELL TurboClean Pet 3948: a compact upright when the hose is part of the job. This package is the more versatile TurboClean choice for a home needing carpet washing and occasional hand-tool cleaning. Its supplied hose and tools are the meaningful distinction from the simpler 3952. The narrower floor head and smaller tanks still favor manageable areas over a long uninterrupted whole-house session.

Choose the package for the furniture you actually clean

The 3948 includes a self-cleaning Tough Stain Tool and a spraying crevice tool. The former gives you a hand tool for suitable soft furnishings; the latter can reach narrower gaps. A seven-foot hose lets the upright stay on a stable floor while you work on a nearby surface. Check the route to the farthest cushion or stair tread rather than assuming the stated hose length is all freely usable reach.

Read the upholstery label and test a hidden area first. The exact guide excludes velvet and silk and warns that colored stuffing can bleed through wet fabric. This makes the cleaner relevant to washable furnishings, rather than a way around a fabric's care restrictions. A generic pet formula does not make every pet bed suitable for wet cleaning.

A small floor head changes the pace of room cleaning

The published floor path is 7.5 inches, with a four-row powered brush. That is a practical comparison against the 11-inch heads on larger Revolution models. You may value the smaller head around furniture, but covering a broad open room requires more overlapping lanes. Choose according to the actual carpet layout, including whether furniture can be moved before cleaning.

Vacuum loose hair and debris first. This is a carpet washer with spray and extraction, not a replacement for ordinary dry vacuuming. The guide's ordinary cleaning sequence uses the trigger for a wet pass and releases it for extraction. Additional dry passes can remove more moisture without repeatedly adding solution. Follow the different directions if using a specifically supported antibacterial formula.

Expect recovery-tank stops before the clean tank is empty

The product table lists a 2.36-liter clean tank and a 1.3-liter recovery tank. Their different sizes mean one clean fill is not a promise of one uninterrupted session. The recovery float can stop suction before you need more cleaning mixture. Stop and empty the tank when directed rather than continuing to wet the carpet after pickup has reduced.

Its 14 lb stated machine weight is useful for comparing dry handling, but liquid and attachments add to the moving job. Plan filling and disposal near a suitable sink. The 20-foot cord and hose solve different reach problems: the cord determines where the base can operate, while the hose reaches from that position to the work.

The self-cleaning tool helps with one part of cleanup

The guide describes a tool lever that switches from spraying to a cleanout route through the tool and hose. That is useful after extracting a messy spill, particularly if you would otherwise leave residue inside the hose. Return the tool to its normal spray position before the next cleaning task.

The cleanout route does not empty or wash the dirty tank for you. Unplug for maintenance, remove trapped debris and allow cleaned parts to dry. The manual also says the brush roll remains on during hose use. Keep the upright positioned as instructed and do not leave the turning brush stationary on a vulnerable surface or balance the machine on a stair.

When it is the right TurboClean

Choose 3948 when a compact upright plus a documented hose route covers the actual carpet and washable-furniture jobs. Choose the TurboClean 3952 when floor washing is the priority and an included upholstery route is unnecessary. For broader carpet areas and a larger clean tank, compare the Revolution ExpressClean 4499. If almost every mess is a small hand-tool spot, the Little Green 1400B avoids moving an upright around the furniture.
