A useful fit for

Useful for compatible room carpet and furniture when the exact hair-oriented kit and Rinse & Go are valuable.

The main tradeoff

Published machine weights conflict; twenty-two pounds governs. The current base box and EX301B bundle name different fourth tools.

The Shark CarpetXpert HairPro EX301 suits a home that needs both carpet washing and a substantial hand-tool kit, with particular attention to hair. Its main advantage over a small portable is the upright floor head: you can wash a carpeted room without kneeling over every patch. Its advantage over a floor-only CarpetForce is the attached hose and supplied tools for suitable furniture and stairs. The tradeoff is a larger machine to carry, clean and store.

The exact package matters more than the HairPro name

The current US EX301 box list names a 3.5-inch stain tool with reversible bristles, a Mini Stain Eliminator, an XL Stain Eliminator and a Hair Extractor, together with starter cleaning solutions and a storage tray. Those tools cover different tasks. A wider tool can reduce the number of overlapping hand passes over a broad cushion, while the smaller integrated tool offers access around corners. The hair attachment has its own debris-handling routine; it does not make the upright a replacement for ordinary dry vacuuming.

The EX301B Pet Formula bundle needs a separate carton check. Its page names a Pet Mess Extractor where the base EX301 list names the XL tool, and adds a 48-ounce formula bottle. Do not assume that buying extra solution also guarantees the same tool selection. The Pet Mess Extractor is intended for permitted wet pet messes, while a hair attachment addresses hair. Those are distinct reasons to choose a package.

Floor washing and hand-tool chemistry are separate routes

The EX300-series instructions describe forward movement dispensing water and Deep Clean Pet solution, followed by a backward suction-only pass. You still control the pace, overlap and direction. Moving too slowly or stopping while the reclined machine is dispensing can oversaturate carpet. Automatic dispensing therefore reduces trigger work, but does not remove the need to manage the cleaning pass.

The smaller StainStriker reservoir contributes OXY solution during hand-tool cleaning. Its presence does not mean that both chemicals reach the upright brushroll. For a sofa stain, you park the body upright, select the appropriate supplied tool and follow its spray, scrub and extraction instructions. For the floor, use the prescribed carpet-washing route. Neither workflow should be confused with steam cleaning or internal liquid heating.

Dry Only means further extraction after washing

The named Dry Only selection stops dispensing and lets you make further extraction passes after deep cleaning. It is useful when a section still contains recoverable liquid. It is not permission to pick up household dry dirt with the upright. Vacuum the area first using a conventional vacuum, especially when pets leave substantial loose hair.

Drying still depends on carpet, humidity and the amount of liquid applied. Plan a route out of the room and keep traffic away until the surface is ready. The HairPro system does not make an unsuitable rug suitable: Shark excludes wool on the product page, and the guide places further restrictions on delicate or unlabelled rugs.

Carrying and cleaning deserve equal weight

The current base EX301 table lists 22 pounds and a 22-foot cord. The EX301B table lists 20.7 pounds for the named EX301 machine, so the lower number should not be treated as a dependable carrying advantage. Use the higher figure when planning stairs, and add the effect of liquid. Filling after positioning the machine is more manageable than carrying full tanks between floors.

Rinse & Go provides an onboard path for cleaning compatible hand tools and the hose. It does not wash every attachment automatically: the larger tool and collection attachments need their own care. Empty recovered liquid, remove collected hair and allow cleaned components to dry. The supplied storage tray is not evidence of a powered floor-head wash cycle.

Who should choose it?

Choose EX301 when carpeted rooms, compatible upholstery, the documented hair attachment and onboard hose cleanup all matter. Choose EX201 if its wider hand tool and ordinary CarpetXpert package cover your jobs without a HairPro requirement. A CarpetForce EX551 is more appropriate for floor-only washing and a smaller carrying burden. For isolated furniture spills with little room carpet, a portable such as PX251 avoids storing the full upright body.
